i thought fragile meant "to be passed by cricket bat"
i sent a brolly which got to my customer bent in two the postmans words were "i didnt do that mate" so i sent a replacement and put on the tube do not bend it turned up bent right6 in the middle of the do not bend text .....who says royal mail arnt sarcastic

Suppose this one really depends on the supplier, but weeks apart doesn't guarantee that it will be a different batch - some suppliers might have the same container kicking around for months (assuming they keep that level of stock in at all)!

if they are the only ones that this has happened to then my money is on them being damaged by either the post or the new owner and then the crack/bottom coming off from impact/stress fracture

Yeah probably, but it just seems a little unusual that it wasn't the handles coming off - that I would have expected, not the bottom coming off! Still, haven't had any reports of that happening since, and no one else has reported the same problem.

if the box had been dropped heavily and had landed on the base, then its possible, if they have put a night light in them its possible, i would tbh, ask them to return them (you will have to cover the postage) but at least then you can have a good look at them

I've had 2 occurrences of this, just posted about them. One hadn't been in the post but hand delivered to family member.
