Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Already got that (2011)
Still persevering with it but it's a little CPU greedy.

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
The question I have is do you really need to rollback to any point in the past or just to recover if your latest install cause issues? There are to my knowledge a number of hardware pci recovery cards (and some usb recovery sticks) that allow you to take a snapshot or regular snapshots and on a reboot restore to that snapshot. Main advantage is they are cheap to buy these days as used by a lot of schools/net cafes etc to restore pcs to a clean state every reboot. Perhaps you could save your money if this level of recover was sufficient?
Take a look at: http://www.recoverystar.com/ website.

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Recovery Star looks very interesting but I can't find any prices or supplier info. on that site
I guess rolling back to more recent updates is the critical thing but it would certainly be useful to go back further.

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Found the Recovery Star card, possibly not quite what I'm after but worth a play
Installed trials for Rollback Rx and also Timeline Pro. Timeline isn't quite as slick but works ok. Rollback so far is looking exceptionally good, just done my first 'rollback' and it was very quick and effective.....will carry on playing!

http://www.comodo.com/home/backup-onlin ... covery.php
This looks very interesting and best of all is free for non commercial use

THis above link seems to be to the download as top link seems to be dead lol - probably failed to restore properly after last crash!!
Perhaps it is because they have stopped development as Windows 8 supposedly has it built in.

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Rollback RX is a brilliant utility. I've been using it for a couple of years and it's saved me on a few occasions. I schedule an automatic snapshot to be taken at 7pm each night - takes about 5 sec. I also do a manual snapshot before I install any software.
One of the best utilities available in my opinion.

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Asking about this now. I see the latest version boots prior to Windows starting so you can recover at that stage but I appreciate what they're saying here. That's where Acronis Drive Clone comes in handybigj2552;49543 wrote:but....
from what i have read on another forum.....
"THE VERSION BEFORE THIS WAS BETTER I MEAN V.8.
IN THIS VERSION V 9 THERE IS NO HARD DRIVE IMAGE BACKUP ON CD IN CASE ALL THE SYSTEM FAILS TO BOOT..
V9. RELEASE IS A REAL BAD NEWS,I AM GETTING BACK TO VERSION 8 WHERE ALL THAT WAS POSSIBLE"

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
Cheers for the positive feedback. It certainly seems to be fast! I did a couple of test rollbacks and it really is painless.Stitch Up;49593 wrote:Rollback RX is a brilliant utility.....

Re: Rollback/Restore Software
^WorthDoingRight - I'm taking a look at Comodo
I wonder if Windows 8 will have full rollback or just system files again?
