Reliable CISS
Re: Reliable CISS
They're mounted under the scanner unit, so no extra room for larger carts, but there is room to get CISS tubing out
Re: Reliable CISS
Oh, that's like the old method that Brother used to use... before they came to their senses! Epson'll catch up one day.pisquee;48038 wrote:They're mounted under the scanner unit, so no extra room for larger carts, but there is room to get CISS tubing out

Re: Reliable CISS
Are any of the Brother printers not all in one? I.e. Just a printer? What's the situation with Brother printers that aren't used regularly, is there an issue with the ink not getting to the head?
Re: Reliable CISS
As far as regular ink is concerned (which is what pisquee is talking about), I am quite happy to state that my MFC-5890CN has not been one scrap of trouble using £10 third-party ink.Justin;48040 wrote:Are any of the Brother printers not all in one? I think all Brother printers have scanners on top. The additional price for the more expensive ones include network, wireless, ADF, fax, duplex, etc etc, but even the cheapest has a scanner on top. For the network Brother printers there are iOS and Android apps for both printing and scanning to your mobile phone/iPad.
Re: Reliable CISS
Well, the CISS was ordered a couple of days ago, and so hopefully will turn up today. Hopefully will get time to get it set up today, and will let you know how I get on.
Re: Reliable CISS
If you can, please add some photos. They make it much easier to see how you're getting on. I'm sure that will be helpful to others who might want to follow your example.
Re: Reliable CISS
Am going to get it set up in the normal way to start with, to see how things go. The supplier only included one syringe, not 6 for one for each colour, so it is going to take a bit of time to clean out each syringe between colours.
Re: Reliable CISS
Well, I finally got the CISS set up, and the pigment inks running - in fact I have had no problems, although it has only been set up a few days. Got it profiled, and colours looking good, as the inks are matched more to the Stylus Pro UltraChrome inkset, rather then the home Claria inks, and only using cheap (although 120gsm weight) paper, rather than specific inkjet paper, so not special coating for the ink to look its best, but most of the time this will be our office printer. I will be getting some proper paper for it, and profiling that for art printing.
But, this cheap CISS from CoralGraph is so far running fine, with no problems for me to fix, and hopefully it will stay that way, although the glue gun and/or epoxy are readily available to attempt to plug any air leaks that crop up.

Re: Reliable CISS
This thread got me thinking. If having the CISS sitting on top of the printer (i.e. higher than the print heads) makes the inks flow too quickly/easily, then surely the opposite is true, that if the CISS is below the print heads then the ink will struggle to flow well. Most advice is to sit your CISS next to your printer, so that the base of the CISS and the base of the printer are level with each other, but on most printers the print heads are somewhat higher than the bottom of the printer, and certainly in the case of mine are a little higher than the CISS. I am now wondering if this is also part of why people have a lot of problems with using CISS - that they need to raise the CISS's level up a little so that it is more the same level as the print head?
I may be wrong of course, so happy to hear other people opinions/wisdom/experience!
