Many thanks to RogerC for the PM which answered my question very succinctly, and now Justin for this:

"The Ricoh use a Powerdriver so you can print from any software without relying on a printer profile."

All I needed to know. Now if I can just remember to always set my printer to powerdrive I'll be fine.
Hopefully able to show my first attempts before the weekend. Squeeeeeeeeeeee!

Photoshop Elements is a fraction of the price of photoshop cs, and it will do everything you need.
