I see that post was back in 2008, maybe this has been rectified? Not had a chance to read the rest of the thread.

I couldn't get 0.48 to run, crashes every time but 0.47 runs fine.

Interesting associated article here....

Have you tried the portable version? It runs okay for me, I just don't see any difference whether the colour management is on or off.

Thought I'd update this thread :-)

Managed to get latest versions of Inkscape and Gimp working. Both look really good. Thought I'd spend some time working with Inkscape to see if I could replicate the work done in Photoshop. All went very well, couple of crashes whilst importing photo's but it autosaved so no big problem. Bit of an issue when I came to open/save Photoshop docs, no support for .psd I don't think. Tried to print but came out very dark so maybe need to double check my colour/profile settings here. Overall, a very good piece of software.

Not done much with Gimp yet but I can see that it opens/saves in .psd which is a major bonus.

Both look like being great 'free' alternatives that will also run on Ubuntu!

Keen to try this SK1 software but as a noobie to Ubuntu 11.04 I'm a bit in the dark as to where to start! Trying to persevere with a Linux platform to see how it goes :-)
