Actually, I believe Epson have been tested before and although they don't like you using non-OEM ink, they'll only cause a fuss about it if it was the ink that caused the problem. If it's something else that caused the problem, they tend to honour the warranty.

Whether it's worth spending money getting a cheap entry-level printer fixed, though, is open to question.

SOLD for £50 yesterday, explained to guy about problem and he said said he could fix it no problem, i said make me an offer he said £50 so i accepted, he emailed me this morning saying it's working great now as i asked him to let me know.
