Thanks for all the comments. It's reassuring to know that I am on the right track here - Royal Mail for smaller items, DPD for larger - based upon my own personal experience which seems to match the opinions and experiences given above. Hermes ..... nobody likes playing the 'where did you leave my parcel' game - one I have had to play several times and oh so very tedious. DPD's tracking system and text service really does put them at the top doesn't it as far as customer experience. Another decision made and a box ticked off of my very long to-do list. Have a great weekend everyone.

Hermes are finally being taken to Tribunal on 30th April by the GMB, their solicitors Leigh Day, and a large number of their supposedly 'self employed' gig economy courier workforce. So, all I'm saying is, don't put all your eggs in the basket with Hermes at the moment!

If I was sending a basket of eggs anywhere, I wouldn't entrust it to Hermes!

Eggs might be ok. Sometimes, when we threw a parcel over a gate after 3 attempts on 3 different days (and only a single 45p payment for the delivery) it would have a soft landing in a hedge, fish pond, or pile of dog cr@p!
