It dries very quickly. You should be able to remove the stencil after just a couple of minutes. Apart from stencils, great effects can be obtained by, say, criss-crossing a sheet of glass with strips of insulating tape, or criss-crossing a wine glass with elastic bands before spraying.

This is what I use - http://www.diy.com/departments/valsp.../184225_BQ.prd but others are available from the likes of Rust-o-leum and Plastikote. It makes a very smooth, unblemished surface, just like etching, but so much easier and cheaper. Hard-wearing and I've even hand-washed the bottles I decorated (to make lamps).
I fail to see how this is easier or cheaper than my method as the process is the same,but using acid etch creme you can remove the excess and reuse it after you've etched the glass were as with the spray once it's done it's gone.
