Yea, that's a thorn in my side aswell

I've got money in paypal all the time, can't say the same for my bank account though

It used to be chargeable but I'm sure (just asked the missis and she is a PayPal Guru) it's now FREE for any amount.

For me, it's not the cost of transfer but the time it takes and the inconvenience.

If someone pays me by PayPal and I need some stock, it's much easier and quicker to just buy the stock with the money in PayPal. Without PayPal it's a case of transferring it to my business bank account (which takes a few days), then across to the credit card (which takes a day or two), before I can actually use it.

While there are some suppliers that provide the easier and convenient option of PayPal, I'll use them rather than going down the inconvenient route of using another supplier.

Some of the suppliers are stuck in the dark ages, they don't even take online payments, they need to call you up for card details

And it's not like they would lose out by accepting paypal, they can get a merchant account which drastically reduces the paypal charges, and in turn can pass the surcharge on to the customer, like BMS do

OK, they might get subjected to having a pending balance (not sure if that is exclusive to ebay sellers though ), but as long as they play fair, it shouldn't be a problem either.

As much as I dislike having to accept paypal on ebay as a seller, I love using it on other sites, as a buyer

We only pass on the 'extra' cost of using paypal compared to taking a credit card over the phone. PayPal, whilst having tierd rates for taking money, are still a lot more expensive than using a card machine in the office.

You can get a PayPal card now as well and this loads the same day (I think) - that way you can use the PayPal funds, buy online paying by that card and avoiding any extra PayPal surcharges!

Yes, that's even worse. When I'm ordering stock, I like to jump from website to website, add things up, decide where to buy, and then click to pay. All done.

But if you then have to mess about with phone calls to make payment, it just leads to further inconvenience and possible delays.

Yes it is annoying when a supplier passes the PayPal fee onto us (because we end up having to pay PayPal twice), but then you factor that into your cost. If it becomes a deal-breaker then you look for someone else but at least we're given the choice.

Point taken, but would it be fairer to put prices up for everyone or just those that want to pay via PayPal? There are choices and we all have to bear that in mind

I wasn't saying that, I was saying that I'd rather have the choice. On your site we have the choice to pay by credit card and avoid the PayPal fee if we wish, or we pay a little more for the convenience of PayPal. You give us that choice. Some suppliers don't even give us the option, never mind the choice.

For myself, I'm building up a little spreadsheet of cost prices across the suppliers I use and factor in extra charges if there are any and postage for common quantities. Sometimes they cancel each other out. What you lose on the PayPal charge you gain on the postage, so we win out anyway. Sometimes you can drill down the cost and the extra PayPal charge may only be a couple of pence per item - making it easier to justify.

But the important thing is that we have the choice to pick the payment option that's most suitable to us. You give us that choice, some suppliers don't.

There have been problems with the paypal cards being sent out when the current one expires. In fact, I'm not sure they are still doing them, will look into it elsewhere.

Martin, at least you say on your site what payment methods you accept, most of the other suppliers don't, which is a PITA

I wasn't having a dig at you passing the surcharge on either, I know about it, so factor that into my costs when buying/reselling.

I don't have a credit card, the only options I have are debit card, or paypal, and as I said up there ^^^ somewhere, I've always got funds in paypal but not always in the bank, so paypal is the payment method I prefer for online purchases.
