If you are talking about the guide pin as per my pic I seem to remember that there is a phosphor bronze (?) bush in the main plate that allows the pin to move up and down. If this wears I would look at getting another thin bush to fit in the gap. Fairly easy to get manufactured (local engineering/ebay) and fitted just by removing the top plate. probably much cheaper as well. Possible that a suitable bush already exists.
The press is excellent but I agree there are several areas that could be improved including my pet one - maximum working gap needs to be increased to allow slates/plaques etc to be pressed without using so much pressure to set the latch.
