Illustrator or CorelDRAW

Illustrator or CorelDRAW that is the question.

I've owned CorelDRAW like 10 years ago.... didn't like it much almost form go so probably have not given it a fair chance, to be honest less than a day of use, I disliked it so much. I think at the time it didn't really do what I wanted which would probably have been picture editing. I've used Photoshop for more years/decades than I can remember but now find myself needing to do cut paths and bigger graphics so time to choose.

Does one have any major advantages over the other, it's functionality not cost that I am concerned with so your experiences would be most appreciated.

Personally I prefer Illustrator, but that's probably just because it's what I learned on. I think Corel is probably just as capable. What I will say, is that Illustrator does have quite a learning curve (not sure about Corel). I assumed because I was competent in Photoshop I'd be able to use Illustrator, but the whole process is different, and takes quite a bit of learning in my opinion.

How many times is that the case.... Even when photoshop updates and they change the menu's and nesting of commands it takes an age to suss it out again.

if you like illustrator, then take a look at what Chris Spooner gives you in his tutorials, there is a paid section of designs etc, but get on his mailing list and the tutorials will come into your inbox, i find it really confusing working with both Corel and Illustrator, and stick with Corel, but i still love getting these tutorials through, one day i will get to grips will illustrator a bit more http://blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/tutoria ... ing-effect

I work with coreldraw...only because all the sublimation companies appear to work with coreldraw.

I'd noticed that most seem to work with CD.... wondered if it was a price thing or features or ease of use.

Seems to be a bit like cars, everyone has different tastes and thoughts as yet there is no real decision making reason I will see how this thread pans out over the next few days before I decide which way to go.

I am a Corel man, I've been using it since V2 and have been a beta testa since X3 to now so I may be a bit biased but hopefully still realistic. I have used Illustrator and found it very awkward to use compared to Draw but to be fair that was some versions ago and things may have changed. Illustrator will rely on Photoshop for advanced bitmap editing and Draw relies on PhotoPaint although it does have a fair bit built in and BOTH programmes come in the CDGS box (and integrate closely) along with more fonts and clipart than you can wave a stick at.

I would be curious to know what parts of Draw people are not so happy with and also what version they are using as Draw has changed considerably over the last few versions, not so much how it looks but internal working but that is probably another thread if anybody would like to participate.

I too am a beta tester for several products from big names and was on the design committee for one but gave that up several years back due to time constraints and now finding myself coming back to it now the kids have gone.
