Re: Smudged edges
Hey all
i am really stuck on how to fix a problem
i have moved my sub kit from my workshop to a new shop i am setting up in
my mug press always worked fine before moving
now anytime i press a standard mug i am finding smudges on the right side of the image
for example i have an image on both sides of the mug, it seems to smudge (bleed) on the right hand side of the images only...
But it is only noticeable when they have cooled down...
If you look careful enough once its being taken out the mug press i see it but have o look really close..
ii cant up load pictures at the min as i had to rush out and havent tok pics of the mugs yet
the room temperature in the shop is alot cooler than my workshop but i have adjusted temps to suit
my temps and times was 350 fernheit and 220 seconds
i have increased to 370 and time 240s
i always preheat my mugs so the base is always warm
any help would be great sorry i have no pics right now but will upload some once i am back

Re: Smudged edges
Are the mugs a lot colder before you put them in the press?
If so, try warming them up on a radiator or something to see if that cures the problem.
I would be quite surprised if it was the change in temperature as it would have to be hugely different, but is that is the only thing that has changed then perhaps that is it.
Also, is your dye sub paper completely dry and not picked up any moisture in the move?

Re: Smudged edges
The pressure settings may have changed when you moved it try increasing the pressure on your press I noticed this issue when I recently attempted to change my pressure settings when doing full wraps and noticed this issue also try turning the mug upside down about half way through

Re: Smudged edges
hey thanks social and soul...
social i got your post earlier while on the phone but it would not let me reply... im only getting on the laptop now.
thanks it was just the heat as you said, i have put my settings back to normal, like you i didnt think the temp would be a big issue but it changed the min i took your advice and left to warm up alot longer.. we dont have a radiator out the back of the shop so we used an electric heater not energy efficient but it got the mugs done
i think i will have to get them base warmers i seen some posts mentioned from amazon i think... (sorry cant remember what they was called)
and soul you are also right the pressure was not correct once adjusted all was ok, the shop aint far from where i live its crazy to think one little move can mess up so much...
any one from here do markets? if so is this an issue you find you have once at the market with your kit? as this is something i am doing in the new year, and i dont know if it worth getting new kit just for the market its self, or send the old kit to market and keep the new one....
i just panicked as usual by the time i noticed the first lot i done i was already 10 mugs in, not a good start to a new day...
p.s i put a fresh unopened paper in last night so i would have thought they be ok in the printer over night
i didnt realize how cold it would get in there till i got there this morning.... body warmer for me this christmas i think
thanks alot for the quick responses and they did help i just couldnt reply on the phone...

you'd certainly be able to pre warm plenty of mugs on that, or do 10 mugs and a bacon butty at the same time ;o)
