Mavericks - Caution.
Re: Mavericks - Caution.
I upgraded to Mavericks a couple of days ago - just went to boot into my Windows partition and guess what?
The partition has gone.
I am really disappointed with Apple right now.

I suppose now is a good time to use Parallels.

Re: Mavericks - Caution.
It has gone, the partition was renamed to 'os4' and only had a few files which I couldn't see - it was virtually empty.
Starting with the Option key only gave me the Macintosh HD Drive or the repair disk - no sign of Bootcamp.
I reset the P-ram - nothing. It's gone.
I see your still on 10.7 - it was upgrading to 10.9 which caused the problems, it was an upgrade, not a clean install - and it shouldn't have touched any other partitions but it did

I upgraded the Mac to Maverick but don't use it enough to notice any difference.

Re: Mavericks - Caution.
One huge difference that I find incredibly handy, is that when using a second monitor there are now two docks and menu bars, one on each screen. I was on Snow Leopard before this, but as far as I know all version prior to Mavericks only had one menu and dock on the main monitor.Paul;79202 wrote:Iam on lion as i cant see any sense of upgrading as there is no major improvments so lion is plenty enough.
Re: Mavericks - Caution.
I did use Two monitors - I did for YEARS with my old Mac setup but found I didn't need the same with the last job I had (Affiliate Manager for a Betting/Tipster company).
So, up until a few weeks ago when I started populating my Cubecart Shop (for this business) I was using just the iMac screen. I think there WAS only One Dock before Mavericks..
Blindly I have been upgrading as they were made available, comfortable with the fact that Apple had not (until recently) made any major mistakes.. BUT today as I have said I lost my Windows partition (MajorPain - One word).
I still have not installed anything with Parallels - it will not read my Win 7 disk, I made an .ISO out of another copy and still no joy
I have had many machines over the years and as I chucked the cases always kept a note of the activation keys - as I had no joy today from the Win 7 versions I tried an 'Ultmate' key I had a couple of years ago (chucked the case at the tip) but to my HORROR I found that the key had been blocked ! Obviously a member of the dump staff was clever enough to realise what I was throwing away and shared my key ! Now I cant use it - Lesson learned there I'm afraid (Kick up own arse).
So, with my lovely iMac - Two screens and great equipment on it's way I still can't get anything done.. DOH..
I hope I wake up late today to find a new key for something waiting for me.
It's Saturday night, I'm 43 and worried about losing sleep over lack of previously paid for software - What HAS happened to me ?
Worse things happen at Sea.
I must admit though - Parallels 8 IS appealing as you can have both operating systems open at once. I did have a system working earlier but something wouldn't install properly - in the mists of time I can't remember what exactly now.

Re: Mavericks - Caution.
one suggestion i can make, depending on how much you use Windows, is that it might be an idea to install it to an external drive, and boot from that when you want to use Windows. Kind of depends on how much you want to use it, and whether you have a spare fast external drive, as performance may suffer on a slower drive.
It won't help you get your software back, but might help prevent future problems.
Also, I think there is a Microsoft site that has all the ISO's for the Windows 7 disks, which are legal to download once you have an original key to use with it.
