Re: Bleed issues on mug wrap press

Post by tydonk »

I'm using a GeoKnight DC16 press with the DC-MUG full wrap attachment. The ink appears to be "shooting" up from the paper, past the edge of the printed design. I have attached a photo, could someone please tell me what they think is causing this? We are pressing the mugs at 450F for 3:30, 4:00 if the print is a full bleed since we use a cover sheet. Additionally, we've found that without a cover sheet the ink goes through the back of the transfer paper and onto the transfer press pad which means it ends up on the next mug. Anyone else experience this? Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks in advance!

Is your paper creased at the same point where this bleed is occurring? If you put a straight ruler across the face of the mug does the top edge bevel in? If the answer is yes to both then I suspect that is your problem.

Thanks for your reply. I take great care to make sure the transfer is tightly taped to the mug, but it is entirely possible that I'm not getting it perfect. Is there anything else that can cause that issue?

Edit: No there is no creasing on the paper. I cut the transfers so they don't hang off the edge of the mug because the creasing was causing light spots since the paper lifted off the mug.

hey tydonk,
for Mugs like this i heat my press up to 390F and press for 140s with medium pressure
to make sure i dont get any bleeds i tape the image down and make sure it is tightly wrapped all the way around the mug.
i have not had any issues with them settings.
i dont use the geoknight heatpress so dont know if this would fully help you.
