Re: Epson S22 Settings

Post by davebridgewater »

I just wondered what printer settings are the best for mug sublimation using an Epson S22 printer with ciss.

For example, best photo, photo, image and text, text. Also what paper type is best, as there is no option for sublimation paper.

Finally, what setting is best for colour management, like brightness contrast etc.

Any help and advice is much appreciated.

What make of ink are you using?
Can your ink supplier provide an ICC profile for them, if so they will also recommend the printer settings that the ICC was made for.
If not, then you will need to get a custom profile made.
I would only recommend going the custom ICC profile route, if you have a good quality professional ink, from a supplier/manufacturer that you know that you can continue to get that same ink. Otherwise if you have to source another ink type, then you will need a new ICC. If you've bought an unbranded/generic ink from Ebay then beware. If the seller is open as to what you are buying, and the bottles come clearly labelled so you know what is in them, and Googling brings up enough links for you to know that there are enough sources for the ink, then go for it.

In saying that, you would most likely want to go with settings for photo and matte paper.

We didn't get the sublimation ink from eBay, it was from a supplier who we found on google. We bought 100ml of each colour. It seems good quality and they had hundreds of good reviews.

However, no profile came with the product. I will drop them an email to see what they recommend.

Hi
We used an epson S22 before we got a ricoh and found that the epson D88 profile gave the best results short of having a custom made one done for your inks & paper. If you search google you will be able to fine it. Or if you contact Paul on the forum he may be able to do a custom profile for you.

I have managed to sort out my problem thanks to Robert. Also I was using really bad quality paper, I bought some high quality paper and that has made a HUGE difference :)

ICC profiles are specific to your ink, not all sublimation inks are the same, so though another inks profile may improve your results, they still may not be as good as they could/should be. Depending on your product/designs/market this may not matter though.
