Re: Pricing vinyl job

Post by sarahjayne »

I did my first "proper" vinyl order for a local football team this week. They sent me a logo which I had to convert and clean up - plus it was quite detailled - lots of tiny weeding and the team name An Tobar across the back approx 8cm high per letter. I also had less than 24 hours to do them as they didn't deliver the shirts until 8pm Thursday and they wanted them for Friday afternoon. 20 shirts in total.
I know the guy from school and said I'd do the best price I could & he just said fine without looking for a specific figure.
I have invoiced him and he has said the price is more than he expected.
What would you have charged?
thanks

No idea on pricing but its always advisable to set in stone pricing before doing a job to avoid issues like this.

if you did that detailed a work in how many colour vinyl ?? wow i take my hat off to you. you have to remember he supplied the shirts so at the back of his mind he is probably thinking "a couple of quid a shirt" you spend hours on the job and are thinking £8/£10 a shirt. providing you have given him a detail of the work involved then stick to your guns, BUT point out some more costings to him, ie a simple t shirt logo on a t shirt you provide etc, that will help him get a guide. sometimes being an old friend from school makes the need for clear pricing even more essential

Sorry - should have said logo was only done in two colours. Now realise mate rates need to be agreed upon. I charged 10 euro per shirt and then gave him 25% off which made it €7.50 = £6.10 per shirt.
I am happy to stand by the price I gave him - although I realise that with time I'd get quicker at the work, I still think I was fair. I'll try and get a price from another company to compare.

for the size you did i would say that you priced about right, and the mates rates part should have been agreeing to press his own bought shirts in the first place. if you weeded the brick wall and everything else in that design the price is right.

simple 1 colour for 20 off would be 35 each, I think 2 colour detail is a bargin at £6.50
Screen print would be from £80 but would take a few days, - no rush option!

Considering, you had a tight deadline, lots of weeding, 2 colours to deal with, that is a fair price even for a mate. I think some people do not realise how much work goes into this sort of thing especially when you need to convert their artwork as well.

How big was the logo and what did you print two colour? The An Tobar wording and then a one colour logo? Just curious

The An Tobar was across the back in a golden yellow and then the logo was golden yellow with some gold highlights for the hurls and the wording just small underneath. The logo was only about 9cm across - the stones were a pain to weed. He paid me and then came back to me yesterday to ask if I'd do 10 more when he gets them. I think he's been pricing around and decided it wasn't that bad after all ;-)
