Waste Ink Collector on Ricoh GX7000

I've just had a message on my Ricoh GX7000 saying that the Waste Ink Collector is nearly full, I've looked online and the replacements are about £30.00 is this the only way, or is there anything else I can do?

I've got a 5050n and was looking at this the other day. Mine's not full but thought that there must be a way of just emptying it, unless of course its chipped and useless once the chip has been activated.
