ICC Profiles

Hi all,

I've just bought a new sublimation printer as my last one gave up the ghost. However I'm about to throw this one out the window!

I've downloaded the drivers but in my "settings" it says the driver is unavailable.

I've downloaded the ICC profiles but when I right click and click to install, nothing happens.

I'm really rubbish at this and I don't understand what I'm doing wrong!

If you know what the problem is, please assume I have no knowledge at all, I honestly can't overstate how little I understand all this :/

Hi. It might help if you could tell us the make and model of your new printer.

Also, what computer are you using, and what graphics software are you using to print?

Hi Webtrekker,

It's a Epson ET-2860. I'm using a laptop running Windows 10, and designing in Canva.

I've now discovered, after a lot of Googling, that the ICC profiles have got themselves into the correct folder, so I think they've done what they were supposed to! I've also found that they aren't used in Canva, but are in other design places like Gimp - does this mean that when I print, I'm not supposed to choose an ICC profile there? That's how I thought they worked but seems I might be wrong?

In terms of the driver, somewhere over the last hour that seems to have caught itself up and now my settings don't say it's missing, so that's good!

I've always used Photoshop for my sublimation prints and have to select the correct ICC from within the PS Print Dialogue box. I believe a similar procedure is required for Gimp, Affinity, Inkscape, AI, Corel, and most other 'serious' graphics software.


[A bit off-topic, but might be interesting]

I do sometimes do Print&Cut designs for sublimation using SCAL cutting software for my cutter. This software doesn't use ICC's for the printouts, so I have to first save my design (including cutter registration marks) to a PDF file then print the PDF from Photoshop before contour cutting it.

You must set the profile in the apps print dialogue and then turn off colour correction in the printers own print dialogue.

In the print dialogue for your design software - select colour controlled by app ( or something similar depending on the app) and then choose the profile that matches your ink/paper/printer

After you have done that then in the printers own properties dialogue box click the more options tab and under colour correction select custom and click the advanced button. Then check the no color adjustment box. (screenshot attached using ET2710 - yours should be similar).

Of course all of this is assuming that you are using a PC. If you are using a Mac or iPad then you have no control over colour output. Macs o/s overrides the profiling you cjhoose in favour of its own native profile.
