Re: has Xpres Sub paper got thinner?

Post by smiley_mug »

I recently noticed yellow marking on the mugs where the heat resistant tape has been. I had this problem a few years ago with my Xpres mugs then started to wrap mugs in a way that the tape does not directly touch the mug which completely solved the problem at the time. Today I noticed the problem is back like the heat tape marks can seep through the paper! Also when I recently printed some metal inserts for bottle openers the sublimation paper somehow got wrinkled during printing causing issues and never used to like it is thinner or somehow different. Anyone else? and could anyone recommend a thicker paper to use?

I can't comment on the Xpress paper, I stopped using it many years back

I can recommend Ink Experts Style 120gsm paper. I use it on all blanks except textiles

Sounds like you need to change your tape.
I had the same issue with cheap tape.
ink experts tape doesn’t do it.

Yes, we've experienced this in the past. There is lots of fake Kaptan tape floating around on ebay. We only purchase from our mug supplier now. Heat tape should not transfer onto the mug.

thanks Mrteajunkie but when i had the issue originally this was my first thought so i tried the kapton tape directly from one of the sub suppliers and it made no difference!. The problem seemed to be specifically with those using the XP5013W mugs from Xpres in an oven. The yellow mark on white isn't that obvious to see and I only spotted it was back as i was doing a stall in bright sunlight at the weekend which is a pain because you can print loads before you notice. Anyway i will try to sort with thicker paper and i have some of the clear tape i can try.
