Re: Virtual Machine recommendations for running windows 7 in windows 10
Just wondering if anyone can recommend an intuitive, easy to use Virtual Machine for running Windows 7 Pro on a Windows 10 Pro PC?
The background is that I run a Ricoh 3300 printer (I know it's old but it still churns out prints with no troubles) and have just moved everything to a 'new' Windows 10 PC and cannot get Powerdriver to work (it worked fine on the previous Windows 10 PC I had but I have a feeling with this newer installation it won't work). I have all the installation discs etc so am thinking a virtual machine running Windows 7 would be the easiest way to go so I can print through Powerdriver from Photoshop.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations and advice.
Neil.

Photoshop CC is no longer supported on machines not running Win 10. What version of Photoshop do you have?

Thanks very much for your recommendations of Virtual Box - that was one of the options I was looking at so I will go ahead with that, nice to know from people who've actually used it.
webtrekker - I have Photoshop CS5 that works fine on Windows 7 so that won't be a problem but thanks for suggesting it might be.
Thanks again for your advice.

Good. That's what I use on my Win7 machine now that it won't run latest versions of CC.webtrekker - I have Photoshop CS5 that works fine on Windows 7 so that won't be a problem but thanks for suggesting it might be.
Virtualbox is good, but I've never tried printing using Sawgrass drivers from it. I think you may need advice in this particular area from someone who actually uses PowerDriver from within VirtualBox.

Yes webtrekker, I'm sure it won't be as straightforward as I hope it will be. But it'll have to be an improvement on my current set up - crawling under the desk to move all cables from new pc to old one every time I want to print through Powerdriver and then back again)!
Will report back when I get round to trying Virtual Box.

Just wondering, if your demands aren't too great (and they usually aren't for this type of work) would it not be worth your while buying a refurbished Win7 machine for around £60 from ebay to do the printing?

Yes, my last resort will be to use an old W7 laptop I've got with a dead screen and just hook it up to a monitor switching box. Seems a bit of a shame to have to go to such a Heath Robinson approach though when tech should be able to do it!
