In fairness to Ian I don't think he mean't to say air but he is right, many users find switching the printers off and on every day does help to keep the nozzles clear.

I can understand why this works, but it will consume ink every time (it's a bit like doing a re-prime daily). If you had a set of cartridges in your printer and did this every day then the cartridges would run out of ink without printing anything, so some ink must be pulled through. I was curious to know where the air came from as the cartridges should be filled with ink and there wouldn't normally be any air in the cartridges.

It doesn't consume as much ink as everyone thinks it does.

OK I should have said ink instead of air but, at least everyone or should I say most got the idea of what I said.

When I was told to do it it was said that it was called a blow through & when you think of blow you think air don't you. We all make mistakes at times said the Dalek getting off the dustbin!

I used to use an Epson R800 and Epson 2100 for printing photo's (A4 and A3). Now I use canon for photos so these 2 Epson printers are waiting for a new use.
I got an Epson S21 in my mug printing kit and although it is very noisy and cheaply made (and to buy), it seems like it copes very well with dye sub- especially for a 4 colour printer. Although being dye sub, there's not so much point in 6 colour printing as the colour gamut is apparently a lot smaller.
I did wonder about getting empty cartridges for my R800, but until i get any problems with the S21 there's no point.
