Delivery from Xpres today of the Unsiub fridge magnets. Really disappointed that you get a small 25mm square magnet to go on the 75mm x 50mm hardboard, I would have expected 50mm x 25mm would be far better.

Also got the white aluminium business card sized metal to have a go with. Just waiting on the magnetic sheet for those.

This is why I moved over to buying the magnet separately. Fridge magnets sold by sublimation companies tend to be quite expensive and they only send the small strips or dots.

Using the magnetic sheets works really well and looks much better to the customer. One day I'm going to buy a craft cutter and see if it is possible to cut out shapes. It's easy to cut with scissors so hopefully, a reasonably decent craft cutter will be able to cope.

I doubt that a craft cutter will be up to the job unless you are buying really thin magnetic sheets. I use an industrial toggle press which delivers 1.2 tonnes of force to cut through the material with dies. Cutting shapes is a lot different to using scissors.

Got to disagree there Gary.

I cut printable magnetic sheets on a weekly basis for magnetic party invitations that the organiser can send out to guests and they stick them on their fridge or microwave as reminders of the forthcoming event. I've cut thousands of these. Admittedly, my Silhouette Cameo struggled with them, but my Silver Bullet cutter slides through them like Fred Astaire on baby oil!

Obviously, if you're sticking magnetic sheet to the reverse of an aluminium shape then you don't need to have printable sheets, just ordinary black stuff off the roll will do.

Here's the type of invititation I used to contour cut, 9 (credit card sized) to a 50p A4 sheet -

Haha! :biggrin: But it's all that's needed for thin aluminium fridge magnets, anything heavier would just be a waste. It's not paper thin though, it's 0.5mm thick.

I have cut out .5mm magnetic roll on my versacamm.

The printable rolls come in two different weights, .5 and vehicle grade. The .5 cuts quite well in the VS. Only thing you have to be aware of is that some exit feeders on the VS are not Ali so the material sticks to it, fortunately mine is Ali and the material slides off, but it is 50/50 on whether you are that lucky.

Key thing to nice cuts is a sharp 75 degree blade and do three passes instead of 1 heavy.

I use 5mm mdf fridge magnets from subliblanks. They come with an adhesive magnet just a bit smaller than the blank. At 65p ex vat they not a bad price too
