Re: heat vinyl query - problem and supplier request

Hi

I have been buying heat vinyl from Sign Making and Supplies. I have been buying their polyflex vinyl. Previously bought yellow and white, then purchased black (all 50cm rolls) and a few A4 sheets of red/royal blue/orange as I did not need a lot of those colours at present.

The yellow worked fine once I got going, haven't used the white yet, but the issue started when I used the black. I had black text, with some red, blue, and orange, and even a bit of layering, everything worked fine except for a small corner - the Y on mummy in the first, and the corner above the S in the second (as you will see from the photos). I then pressed another item in completely black, and again an issue with one corner. The opposite corner from before. No matter how often I pressed it, it just would not stick. Got to the point where I singed one item :biggrin:

Anyone have any ideas what would cause this?? The seller said he'd never had this before and was going to press some items to check. Not heard back... Just seems weird that it was only the black that had the issue and on a small part!!

This is the vinyl here

Anyone else have any other suppliers??

thanks

Have you tried a lower temperature and cold peel, as per this video?...

Were both failures quite near a seam, or close to the edge of your heat plate?
It looks like a pressure issue (due to being close to a seam) on the "Straight outta" image.

you know what, that makes sense. the corners are near seams. they were in the middle of the heat plate, cos quite small items (either newborn baby or 0-3 months).
i have another pad so i can put it inside garments just never thought to do it on this small item!!
i have a couple more baby vests, i will redo the straight outta mummy one, as the other i redid the y already. it was for my sister and other half to announce their pregnancy!
thanks!!

I have had similar problems with a batch of red hot peel from MDP Supplies. Wouldn't stick properly and hard to remove backing no matter what press settings I used. They had never heard of the problem before either...

Subsequent batches have been fine. I just put it down to a faulty batch.

It may well be that the fact the bits that weren't sticking were by seams that there wasn't enough contact with the press and vinyl. Try a folded teflon sheet under the y to raise it to the height of or just over the seam.

Alternatively try with an iron (at correct temp and with lots of pressure as opposed to movement) which isn't affected by the seam in terms of contact. If it seals fine u know the issue was the seam affecting contact rather than the vinyl. If neither option works it's likely a dodgy batch. X

Hi, I had the same problem, so I stuck mouse mats under the printed area and it was fine. You will probably find its due to the seams. Other option would to be try more pressure.
