Re: Transfer Press Mug Press help

Post by tanzap »

Hi All

I just purchased the mug press from The Transfer Press and some sample bits for the 72mm diameter mug element.
Does anyone have some basic set-up times and temps that they use that I can use as a base to fiddle?
I have tried pressing 2 of the thermos cans but both were overcooked so I don't really want to keep wasting items, the sample items I got were the thermos cans, Aluminium water bottle, Glass bottle, Sparta mug, Devon mug

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

The support from The Transfer Press is very good so it makes sense to talk with them about the set-up they sold you.

I've sent them an email, and am waiting for a response, but I get impatient and I want to play with the mug press

Hi. Sadly, running initial tests is all part and parcel of setting up in the sublimation business, so be prepared to shell out at the beginning. I've heard of some people using an entire box of mugs before achieving a decent print.

People can suggest times and temps, but a lot depends on factors other than the press itself. Also, even though a press may indicate a temp of 180 deg C, that doesn't necessarily guarantee that it's at that temp, only a thermometer would give you the exact running temp of your press, so any temperature suggestions would only indicate a starting point from which to make your own trials.

Which press is it? Adkins Studio?

Good starting point is always 180c for 180secs, 160/160 for Ricoh inks.
