Resin Doming/Printers
Re: Resin Doming/Printers
Hi All,
Hopefully someone can help I am considering doming badges for outdoor use but I am unsure as to what paper/media is required and also printer please advise?
I currently have a doming kit purchased from Liquid lens which I have used but not with good results as I always seem to get bubbles and may be printing on the wrong media type Inkjet media/Photo paper.
I have attached a few images of the types of badges i would like to make.
All information welcome
Thanks

Re: Resin Doming/Printers
First off I would speak to Steve at Liquid Lens, he will recommend a good printer (they dont sell complete setups no more but he will advice you)
Drop the idea of using the Canon as you will find it a nightmare finding a media that will work 100% (trust me I have been there)
Use a small blow torch to get rid of bubbles, if they appear while drying then the resin/paper are reacting,
If you want to make a good go of doming then you will need to put some ££ in to it to get a setup that will work 100% and not getting customers back in a few weeks saying the resin has come away from the back or it's bubbled like hell....etc (both the resin/media need to work with chemicals that are used in washing for example)
A small setup which works good is a Roland BN-20

Re: Resin Doming/Printers
I was considering purchasing that exact printer but do I require it? Or can I get the same results using a inkjet printer for outdoor badges? Can you recommend any media types/ resin which I can use to achieve good results?
Re: Resin Doming/Printers
Liquid Lens will supply all you need other than the printer, they have been around along time and use/sell tried and tested gear so you wont fail,
I have used inkjet and laser but not got the results I wanted (tested over 12 months in all weathers)
PS: At least one of them pictures you have posted will cost you a lot of ££ if you reproduce and they come after you, DMB will vouch for that one

Re: Resin Doming/Printers
I switched from Liquid Lens to Acuflow (see post above) and haven't looked back. It's great stuff, he offers different grades and has lots of shipping options.
