Ok so there is a designer that often creates unofficial/'inspired by' movie posters. His posters often appear in magazines and he sells a few prints on some well know online shops, for example Firebox... https://www.firebox.com/Breaking-Bad/p5824
I know this designer now gets commissioned by clients such marvel, but how does this designer get away with creating unofficial/'inspired by' movie posters without any issues?
Copyright question? Movies Posters
Re: Copyright question? Movies Posters
Depends if you are going on UK copyright law or US copyright law different rules apply on different sides of the pond.
Re: Copyright question? Movies Posters
Yes maybe but he's British and sells on his website located in the UK.
Re: Copyright question? Movies Posters
I would think many are on the wrong side of the grey area. Having Breaking Bad as the title on the poster is what clearly pushes it over the line as other wise design would be fine. If he had time for a break or method conoseur ty0e of slogan then would be okay. Just because it is sold mainstream doesn't make it above board. The likes of top shop and primark are happy to do knock offs and you will many court cases against them. Rihanna was the last one I remember. They already made their money by the time they get told officially they can't sell them.
Re: Copyright question? Movies Posters
He's had a lot of paid commission work from movie corporations since he started doing his unofficial movies posters. So it's paid off for him.
