Re: Powerdriver questions - SG3110

Post by technick »

Hi there:)

6 months into buying my Ricoh 3110 and have ad nothing but bother with colours, i have finally settled on the powerdriver which is a big improvement but need to clarify a couple of things....

I am using Powerdriver v4 (not the US version)

I have my Document profile and working space set to "SRGB". Should i continue in this way or use Adobe 1998? (i work with watercolour swatches)

Which substrate is best for printing onto mugs? I currently have it set to Unisub.

And do i let Illustrator determine colours? There is no option to let me choose any other option but have been told to let the printer determine by a few folk?

Cheers
Nick

Thank you Justin.

Sawgrass set up advises using SRGB as a working space however Adobe 1998 offers a slightly larger colour space. Am I able to use 1998 with the powerdriver, and would it give me overall better results than SRGB?

sRGB if powerdriver - ADOBE rgb if direct, you SHOULD get best colours with direct but you would need a custom profile.

settings for illustrator is srgb if using those for document or adobe if usign this. then no colour management happening in illustrator anything else and your blacks will appear brown amoungst other things depending on percaptual or reletive colourimetric.

Yep i have tried with Adobe 1998 printing direct using all four AI settings (Perceptual, Saturation, Relative, Absolute) and still can't get anywhere near powerdriver quality.

I work with custom watercolour swatches, most of them are coming out ok but yellow (faint), green aqua (coming out blue), dark wine (almost black) not so great.

One last question on this... With the powerdriver.... the only option i have is to let Illustrator decide the colour handling. Is this correct, or should it be the printer decides?

If you chose srgb in illustrator thats the same as letting printer decide. illustrator only supports POSTSCRIPT devices for proper colour management.
