The lines do go horizontally. We're printing on to pre-cut paper for mug printing. Yes, we checked the alignment and everything looks good. The lines vary in how bad they are from print to print.
I take it the head is independent of the ink cartridges?

Thanks for the replies. I think we'll need to look at our post over the next month and figure out whether we'll save any money or if it is sufficiently less hassle to do.
