It sounds as if you are just putting the mug in the press then starting the timer.
Put the mug in the press and wait until the temperature goes back up before starting timer.

Ive always used normal sublimation paper then cover with a baking sheet. Never had a problem.

I use baking sheets. They come on a pre cut roll from any good supermarket. 16 sheets of 37x42cms for £1. I used 2 sheets for 50 T-Shirts.
